| 1:00 – 1:45 pm | Opening CVIP Workshop Keeping the (Ad)venture in Corporate Venturing: Overcoming Corporate Antibodies That Inhibit Venturing Success Corporate cultures can be antithetical to the process and pace that venturing groups require, and maintaining the agility of corporate venturing initiatives can be a daunting task. This opening presentation explores corporate obstacles to venturing and ways to foster the ‘venturing adventure’, setting the stage for the day’s interactive workshop activities.
Workshop Leader:Patty Burke Partner The Bell-Mason Group Patty Burke is a Partner with Bell Mason Group (BMG), a consulting firm providing specialized services, methodologies, and tools for corporate venturing and innovation groups in global 1000 companies. A veteran Silicon Valley executive, Ms. Burke is an expert in technology and innovation business strategy and has consulted with more than 100 companies, both venture capital and corporate funded. Prior to joining BMG, she led Burke Venture Consulting, working with venture capital firms and their portfolio companies on business planning, product and market strategies. Ms. Burke previously held executive positions with Silicon Valley software and networking companies for more than fifteen years, leading product marketing, sales/channel and business development. As the first VP Marketing at start-up Ramp Networks in 1996, she was responsible for marketing and sales, contributing to Ramp's IPO (acquired by Nokia). Previously, Burke was VP Marketing for Madge Networks, repositioning the British-based company for its NASDQ IPO. Prior to that Ms. Burke was VP Marketing at Symantec, and was Director of Product Marketing for the Symantec’s Peter Norton Product Group. She began her career in Silicon Valley with the technology marketing consulting firm, Regis McKenna Inc. |

Guest Speaker: Ulrich Quay Managing Director BMW i Ventures LLC Ulrich has been working for the BMW Group for more than 13 years. He has been Managing Director of BMW i Ventures since July 2011. Ulrich is on the board of Chargepoint and MyCityWay. Before heading the Venture Group of BMW, Ulrich was a department manager in the legal department of BMW, both in Germany and England. Jeremiah OwyangPartner Altimeter Group Jeremiah Owyang is an Industry Analyst on Customer Strategy and a Partner at Altimeter Group. As author of teh blog "Web Strategy" (rated by Edelman as top Analyst Blog since 2008), he focuses on how corporations connect with their customers using web technologies. Jeremiah hails previously from Forrester Research as a Senor Analyst focused on Social Computing for the Interactive Marketer and takes pride in launching and managing Hitachi Data Systems' Social Media program in 2005-2007. Jeremiah, along with the Customer Strategy team, has published numerous research reports focused on social business. He has been frequently quoted in the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and USA Today, and he is a frequent keynote speaker at business and technology conferences around the world. He also served as the Intranet Architect at World Savings (now Wells Fargo) and was a user experience professional at Exodus Communications after receiving his Marketing Bachelor's degree at SFSU. After work, he spends time with family, gets in some exercise, and travels to tropical beaches. Jeremiah was pleasantly surprised to find that his small, white, furry dog Rumba is active on Twitter. |

| 2:40 - 3:20 pm | Keynote Presentation Taming the Open Innovation Beasts Siemens Technology-to-Business Center’s Decade-Long Journey Chenyang Xu General Manager Siemens Technology to Business Berkeley Siemens Dr. Chenyang Xu is General Manager of Technology-to-Business Center (TTB), a part of Siemens Corporate Research, located in Berkeley, California. Dr. Xu drives innovation processes for TTB, including the identification, incubation, and investment of disruptive technologies outside of Siemens that can be built into viable new products and businesses for Siemens’ sectors. Between July 2009 and March 2010, Dr. Xu served as the Chief Technology Officer of TTB. Prior to transitioning to TTB, Dr. Xu served as program manager of the interventional imaging program at Corporate Research, where he had taken on increasing roles of responsibility since his arrival in 2000. In his last role with the division, he led a team that developed a number of transformational technology products through strategic alliance with small and large companies. In 2006, he co-founded the Siemens Center for Medical Imaging Validation (CMIV) in Beijing, China, opened to spur the development of the company’s first large-scale automated medical imaging product validation software platform. Dr. Xu earned his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Johns Hopkins University. He serves on the industrial advisory board of University of California at Berkeley - Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He is a member of the advisory board at the University of California’s - Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society and a member of the advisory council of the Berkeley Entrepreneurs Forum. |
